Summary: In 1830, the government of the United States passed a law which exiled all eastern Indians to the plains of the Far West. These people were deprived of lands they had known and loved for centuries. Indian removal was often characterized by racial arguments and prejudice. The author feels that a strong parallel can be drawn with our current racial problems.
