Indian artists at work / Ulli Steltzer ; foreword by Doreen Jensen.

Steltzer, Ulli. (Author).

Summary:

The distinguished photographer Ulli Steltzer sought out British Columbia's native artists in their own places, met them informally, and recorded them practising the old skills. Over 200 perceptive photographs reveal 93 dedicated men and women as they carve silver, wood, and argillite; prepare wool for weaving and knitting; dig roots and gather grasses for their baskets. There are glimpses of their studios, their homes, the countryside; their words, too, are recorded. A foreword by Gitksan artist and author Doreen Jensen shares some cultural perspectives about the importance of this book.
