Summary: From Introdcution: This republication of J.G. Cooper's report on the natural history of Washington Territory from the mid-1800's has been a dream of the Washington Native Plan Society for nearly a decade. Concerned as we are with the present and future of the area's diverse and magnificent floras and their landscapes, we look for historical baselines to use in our attempt to evaluate and conserve a natural legacy. The "Washington Territory" of J.G. Cooper's report was established in 1853. It included present-day Washington, northern Idaho, and Montana west of the Rocky Mountains.
