Native American chef Loretta Barret Oden examines the origins of Cajun cooking by visiting the land of the Houma people deep in the Louisiana bayou. After catching shrimp she learns to make a traditional Houma gumbo, harvests saw palmetto leaves for basket weaving, helps cook alligator sauce picante, prepares grilled redfish and attends a family fish boil.
