Elizabeth Krise told the story of Lady Louse to linguist, Thomas Hess, in 1962 at Tulalip. She told the story in her native language, Lushootseed, and he recorded it for his research. Later he shared the story with Vi Hilbert and asked her to transcribe and translate it. Vi did that and much more. She adopted the story of Lady Louse and carried it far and wide, sharing it with listeners everywhere she was invited to tell stories.
