Chehalis stories / edited by Jolynn Amrine Goertz with the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation ; as shared by Robert Choke, Marion Davis, Peter Heck, Blanche Pete Dawson, and Jonas Secena ; collected and translated by Franz Boas.
A collection of Chehalis tales, collected originally by Franz Boas in 1927 and transcribed into his field notebooks. Ethel Aginsky prepared a typescript from the notebooks, and that typescript is the starting point for piecing these tales back together. A few other tales are included collected by Dale Kincade and Edward Meaney with a few other Chehalis tales of Boas's own collecting that were published.
"Jolynn Amrine Goertz and the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation examine the methodologies, shortcomings, and limitations of anthropologists' relationship with Chehalis people in Western Washington and present complementary approaches to field work and its contextualization."--Provided by publisher.
