Florida's lost tribes / Theodore Morris ; with commentary by Jerald T. Milanich.

Morris, Theodore. (Author). Milanich, Jerald T. (Added Author).

Summary:

Artist Theodore Morris's rendering of Florida's early peoples reflects his passion to create a pictorial record of the state's vanished heritage and of the tribes who have been forgotten through the centuries. The 58 detailed paintings in this book are based on historical evidence and the artist's own research, conducted side-by-side with archaeologists and anthropologists at excavation sites throughout the state. Morris re-creates the lives of these ancient peoples, portraying them at work and at play, and discusses the cultural significance of each work and the inspiration behind it. Noted author and archaeologist Jerald Milanich provides historical and anthropological overviews of more than 20 cultures, from the Palcoindians of the Ice Age to the present-day descendants of these early tribes. He includes links to museums and public-access archaeological sites, where visitors can learn and experience more about the peoples covered in the book. This blend of art and archaeology offers a way to discover the legacy of Florida's lost tribes.
