Tammany hall, by M.R. Werner.

Summary:

Tammany Hall is the oldest and the most powerful institution of a political and sociological nature in America.
Tammany Hall was a New York City political organization founded in 1786. It played a major role in controlling New York City and New York State politics and helping immigrants, most notably the Irish, rise up in American politics from the 1790s to the 1960s. Under "Boss" Tweed's dominance the support which Tammany Hall received from immigrants would firmly establish the organization as the leader of New York City's political scene.
