Summary:

In an effort to boost circulation and save her job, star reporter Anne Mitchell concocts an explosive story about an unemployed middle-class worker, John Doe, who plans to strike a blow against society and big government. When a rival newspaper discovers that her story is a phony, it's up to Anne to find a stand-in John Doe to turn her fiction into fact.
