An anthropologist working in Alaska discovers a frozen Neanderthal woman with a fetus inside. An Indian woman accepts to have the fetus implanted and so is born Ember, a woman of unusual strength. When people start digging for gold in a Neanderthal burial ground, Ember intervenes, gets into trouble and the anthropologist sacrifices his life to save her. A first novel.
