Formatted Contents Note:: The author was an employee of the Russia American Company, who traveled extensively. He had unusual powers of observation. The notes in this book were intended as an official investigatory report to the Directors of the Russian American Company. This manuscript eventually came into the possession of one of the directors, Ivan V. Prokofiev, and was apparently filed away with his personal papers. "The author wrote revealingly not only on intricate business affairs, but of history, ethnology, geography, mythology, natural science, navigation and the whole spectrum of economic activity" -- Introd.
