Summary:

Explores the link between environmental change and human health. Are we winning the battle to prevent global outbreaks of infectious disease? Environmental change is fostering the tide of contagion which threatens to engulf us all. Kenya: In small villages, people are plagued with the escalating consequences of malaria. But what accounts for the recent epidemics in Nairobi, a place where malaria has never before existed? Peru: Scientists are working hard to discover the causes of new hot zones of malaria and dengue fever. Bangladesh: Community health clinics struggle to cope with massive cholera epidemics which strike nearly half a million Bangladeshis and claim 25,000 lives. United States: Travel, commerce and tourism have brought infectious diseases to the doorstep of the West, resulting in new emerging public health threats such as West Nile Virus. Is this a harbinger of things to come?
