Summary:

Explores a growing national security threat throughout the world, how environmental pressures can lead to violence, terrorism and regional conflict. Travel to areas where environmental degradation and unsustainable development practices have had negative impacts on the quality of life for millions of people. Bangladesh: Yearly droughts and floods, extreme poverty, and severe health problems have left people with few options except to flee their homeland where violence, terrorism, and bombings are pervasive. South Africa: Trying to ease the pain of environmental inequities, post-apartheid South Africa has been empowered with a renewed sense of pride. Peru: Is terrorism once again the last resort for those who face poverty and destitution in Peru's shantytonwns, perhaps putting the country on the brink of another revolution? Haiti: Once a popular tourist destination, deforestation has contributed to the country's economic collapse. Now violence and terror are spiraling Haiti deeper into poverty and gang warfare. Mexican/U.S. Border: In some of the most isolated regions in North America, every day thousands of migrants attempt to cross the harsh desert into the United States risking everything in search of a decent livelihood for themselves and their families.
