Content descriptions

General Note:
"Originally published in 1974 (2000 copies were printed), in Anakú Iwachá (The Way It Was), Virginia Beavert collected legends from 23 different storytellers all across the Columbia River Plateau in order to create an educational resource for Yakama children. The new edition, the preparation of which has been funded by the NEH, includes an essay about the original project, an updated glossary, all spelling of Ichishkíin words are updated with the spelling and grammar systems now developed, and new legends in Ichishkíin (the original book was only in English). The book is designed to be a valuable resource for Indigenous Studies scholars, Tribal community members, and educators. The book contributes to fields of Environmental Humanities and Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge"-- Provided by publisher.
